Combining the practices of drawing and writing this project reveals the hidden connections found in the threads and traces of drawing and writing. Through group activities, a community dialogue emerged and became a work of art.
Drawings In The Air
28th - 30th May 2022
Artists Maija Liepins and Elizabeth Hammond have been hosting a series of writing and drawing workshops which are culminating in two paper-based installations at Andover and Romsey libraries. These paper-based installations are ‘Drawings in the air’ connecting people, places, ideas and experiences into new opportunities for enquiry, discovery, curiosity, and surprise.

"A brilliant inspiring workshop which has allowed me to reach out and find the art within me." |
"Today's workshop was very worthwhile for me. It reminded me how much I enjoy writing. It is important to me to be able to articulate my thoughts and feelings on paper and I had forgotten this!" |
At a 'Text as Drawing' workshop with Elizabeth Hammond on 30 march, participants were inspired by the written word and their own experiences of reading in this playful drawing workshop. The drawings created became part of the concertina Big Open Book exhibited at Andover Library.

At a Poetic Writing Workshop on 5 April, participants were invited to unlock their self expression through a variety of stream-of-consciousness techniques designed to bypass the inner critic. Images and phrases from library books were used as writing prompts. Word streams were written on paper ribbons to become part of the Big Open Book, to be exhibited at Romsey library in the form of ‘Drawings in the Air’.
